Buy Neon Sign Transformer
A neon-sign transformer (NST) is a transformer made for the purpose of powering a neon sign. They convert line voltage from the 120-347 V up to high voltages, in the range of 2 to 15 kV. These transformers supply between 18-30 mA; 60 mA on special order.[1] The high-voltage electricity produced is used to excite neon or other gases are used in luminous gas discharge tubes.

Older NSTs are simply iron-cored transformers, usually embedded in asphalt to reduce noise. The core either has a magnetic shunt, or a gap in the iron core, both of which serve to current-limit the output, allowing them to run indefinitely in short-circuit conditions. They can also run indefinitely with no load. Iron cored varieties are quite heavy, for example a 15 kV, 60 mA device may weigh up to 20 kg (44 lb). Some newer manufactured iron cored NSTs include a large capacitor in parallel with the output for power-factor correction (PFC). This serves to correct the shift in the phase of voltage and current caused by the large inductance of the transformer.
All NSTs are designed to produce a high voltage starting pulse to a tube, then limit the current through the tube when it has started. This is opposite of most line transformers, which will produce full voltage to a load even if overloaded, unless the resistance of windings is too great to allow the excess current or until a winding burns out.
Siet transformers are designed and manufactured with the advanced technology of an electronically controlled impregnation under high vacuum process. This high vacuum process uses a special epoxy resin with filling compounds. The purpose of this procedure and the chemicals used are to help ensure that the transformers have superb thermal conductivity and excellent dielectric characteristics when in use.
The metal case that embodies the unit functions as a highly efficient way to dissipate the heat from the transformer during operation, and avoiding any possibility of cracks along the body due to distortion caused by excessive heat. This IP44 rated metal case ensures the transformers are superior at protecting the transformer against heat damage and atmospheric agents in compared to other products on the market that are resin block type construction.
The Metalbox transformers are also built in a mould and are not welded box in order to avoid any rust. The safety mechanism known as a bipolar knife switch is built into the lid to interrupt power supply once the lid is open.
This current limited and balanced output transformer is excellent for all size neon displays tubes up to 67 feet. Patented circuitry uses ground fault safety shutdown for safe operation. This is a high brightness transformer with an honest 10000 volts open circuit at a short circuit current of 35ma. Operates from 110-120 VAC drawing 0.5 amps when fully loaded.
I am buying a neon sign transformer that is current limiting and iron core for my CO2 laser. I don't know the exact voltage i need but it should be around 15,000 +-1000 volts. Can i "easily" add 1000 volts to it by maybe sending it to a warping of copper coils. I don't want to buy this and then be stuck with a expensive transformer that is to low of voltage.
Siet neon transformers are the global leader in premium range of precise manufactured neon transformers & drivers in Australia. Siet have developed an iron core transformer that out performs every other neon transformer in the market. IP44 rated for better installation from all weather conditions, the resin set neon transformers offer perfect heat dissipation. The design of the Siet iron core transformers offer protection for all the electrical connections as they are contained perfectly under the security of the screw down cover.Siet neon transformers are weatherproof with no need for additional enclosures, even if they are installed horizontally on roofing or walls. The combination of premium product design & development has made Siet transformers the first choice for all neon sign makers in Australia. All the electronics for our Siet neon sign transformers are encased in a hot cured epoxy resin made in a high vacuum, this removed all the air allowing the transformer to power the neon signs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, non-stop in any weather conditions.
With a full range of additional options for any neon signage application, the Siet neon transformers are purpose built to all a full range of variable protection options, that plug in easily under the lid.

Neon sign transformers are transformers used to power neon signs. Typically outputting 30mA at 4 to 15kV a neon sign transformer is a great toy to have if you enjoy arcs and sparks. But what is an NST exactly, how does it work?
An NST is a mid point grounded high voltage transformer. This means it has two high voltage outputs, each out of phase with the other. This means that a 10kV NST will have two 5kV outputs, and the potential difference across them will be 10kV. Mid point grounding makes insulation and manufacture easier since the maximum voltage relative to ground will be only 5kV in this case, and 5kV is a lot easier to insulate than 10kV.
You should definitely state that in pairing two neon sign transformers, there is at least half the voltage potential between them as in most cases there is a center-tap on the secondary winding which can introduce direct voltage potential between the two cases. If pairing neon sign transformers, they should be
Wiring a neon sign properly will let you use and enjoy your neon sign in no time. The installation and wiring process for a neon sign is standard and will work regardless of brand or type neon sign. The important part is selecting the correct transformer, the size and capacity of which is based on the voltage requirements of the neon sign. If you don't use the right transformer, your neon sign could fail to operate properly.
Select a transformer for your neon sign. Read the label behind the neon light. This will tell you the voltage requirements needed for the transformer. You can buy a transformer in any local neon sign store.
Remove the rubber cap on the end of the neon tubes, in the front of the neon sign. This will reveal the wires that provide the power to the neon tubes. Make sure the power is off, and do not connect the transformer to the outlet.
Twist together the wires from the transformer and the wires from the neon light tubes. Use your fingers to twist the wires at least five times. Bend the wires in half to prevent the wires from falling apart.
Transformers are generally used for increasing (step-up) or decreasing (step-down) the voltage, as per the demands of an application. The signs require a high voltage, so a step-up transformer is used to light them up. It has a primary winding and a secondary winding. These are wound on an iron core and the primary winding is connected to the mains, while the secondary is connected to the equipment. The secondary winding provides the necessary high voltage that ranges from 2 to 15 kV. The line voltage has a range of 120V to 240V and the output current ranges from 30 mA to 60 mA.
The intensity of the neon lights varies, when the voltage supplied to the neon tube is varied. The line voltage supplied to the primary winding is varied in order to vary the output at the secondary winding. The secondary winding provides a variable voltage depending on the intensity required. The transformers are generally center-tapped. In a center tapped one, the secondary winding has a third lead at the center. This center tap is grounded and the voltages at the output of the other two ends, are out of phase with each other. These voltages are measured with respect to ground voltage, which is provided by the center tap.
The disadvantage of the center tapped transformers is that the voltage at the output is half of its actual voltage rating. However, this does not affect the signs. They are used as a voltage supply for many high-voltage experiments. In these experiments, the full potential is not utilized due to the center tapping of the secondary winding. In many other applications, the center tap is removed to utilize their full potential. 041b061a72
